Marine Raider Memorial March
To Honor: Sergeant Joseph Murray
On July 10th, 2017 Joseph Murray was conducting a training operation as part of Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) 8231. Their mission that day was to conduct an airlift from Cherry Point, NC to Arizona where they would conduct pre-deployment training. While in route the KC-130 they were flying in broke apart in mid-air and crashed in Leflore County Mississippi.
The Murray Family’s loss hit the Florida community hard, for he was a great member of the community. He graduated from Sandalwood High School in 2009 before enlisting in the Marine Corps later that year. In 2006 in Sgt Murray met Gayle Mins from Jacksonville, NC and they were married in 2011.
This July, the Brothers in Arms Foundation (BIAF) is conducting an event to honor Joseph. Fellow MSOT members, family, and friends of Joseph will be conducting a 900 mile hike called the Marine Raider Memorial March from the crash site in Mississippi back to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. This 900 mile ruck will take just under two weeks to complete and will signify bringing their brothers home to rest.
In order to conduct this 900 mile ruck march in honor of Joseph, we need support from his friends, family and the Florida community. We need to raise $25,700 by June 10th. The funds donated to BIAF are 100% tax-deductible. BIAF is a 501(C)3 that directly supports the Marine Special Operations Community. The funds will go towards flights, lodging, transportation, rental cars, meals and medical supplies. The Marine Raider Memorial March is a grueling event with a large logistical train. We can’t do this without your support.
